Is there a way to show things my friends/people I follow have posted, without also showing things they have liked/commented on?

Hmm... that does look like the right setting, thank you. Unfortunately I still seem to be seeing what friends have liked, however I set that. Things commented on disappear, so it's doing something.

Don't overthink it
I feel like my first post here should be something profound and meaningful. I could spend days figuring out what it should be. I just realised there's another option: just post something and get over it.

I managed to get an IT geeky reference as the first post on the server 🤣

Getting something posted definitely helps break that initial barrier, no matter what the content.
